It's confirmed: one more Petra album!
» UPDATED Oct. 5
It's the news fans everywhere wanted to hear: Petra is getting one last hurrah on CD.
Inpop Records will release Petra: Farewell, a live album. It was recorded at The W in Franklin, Tenn. on Oct. 4.
The audio CD will be released Nov. 22. Rob Poznanski, general manager for Inpop Records, told fans who attended the Oct. 4 taping that a DVD version of Petra: Farewell will be released in early 2006.
The album will feature Petra classics, and guest appearances by former band members Greg X. Volz and John Lawry.
Other former band members were invited to participate, a source at Inpop said. Louie Weaver was among those invited, according to Wayne Seboa, the band's manager. But Brent Handy of "Project Damage Control" reported that Louie has declined the invitation.
Inpop set aside 200 free tickets for Petra fans to attend the show.
The source said this would be the final Petra album.
"This should be it. This is the 'farewell, goodbye, thanks everybody for your support' album," the source said.
Several weeks ago, petrarocksmyworld.com solicited "dream set lists" from fans across the globe, which were passed on to Inpop prior to the Oct. 4 taping. At the taping, the band performed portions of at least 26 different classic Petra songs, several solos, and some surprises.
In September, Rob Poznanski talked with petrarocksmyworld.com about the possibility of a new album before it was officially confirmed.
"All I can say is, if you were a Petra fan at any time during Petra history, you will want [this album]," Poznanski said. "I am stoked!"
And there's some hopeful tour news for Petra fans in Europe - Petra's farewell tour may last beyond 2005.
"There have been some requests for us to play in Europe one last time," Bob Hartman, Petra's founder, told petrarocksmyworld.com by email. "We can't fit those dates in this year, so we may extend into 2006 for a European tour."
