Album Synopsis

This self-titled CD was released in 1974. Many of the songs have a country twang to them, almost like southern rock... Some have compared the sound of this album to The Eagles' work. I like this album mostly for the guitars. Many songs feature extended guitar riffs and solos, which make it cool to listen to. Because Hartman was a relatively new Christian at the time, his lyrics are very simple; there's not a lot to them.

Lyrics

Wake Up
Words and music by Greg Hough

Wake up!
You think you're having fun
Wake up!
And see what you have done

What do you think you are gonna do?
When you find out what you're really going through?
When there's noone else around
When there's noone to be found
Don't you be too late, there is no certain date
Please don't hesitate, it might just be too late
What are you gonna do?

Oh, why don't you wake up?
See what's going on
Wake up
Before your time is gone

Wake up!
You think you're having fun
Wake up!
And see what you have done

There's a time that comes in everbody's life
When you can't tell what to think is wrong or right
Don't you feel like you're alone?
Noone makes it on their own
But only know you tried
You're never satisified
That's because of pride
Behind that's where you hide
What are you gonna do?

Oh, why don't you wake up?
Open up your eyes
Wake up!
Why can't you see the light?

Get Back to the Bible
Words and music by Bob Hartman

I don't know what I've been told
Joe Smith has seen Moroni
It's getting so a man can't tell
Who's real and who's a phony

Get back to the Bible
It's telling you the way to go
Jesus is the answer to everything you need to know

"Hare Krishna" may be fun to sing
But it ain't gonna get you to heaven
The only one who's gonna get you there
His number is a perfect seven

Get back to the Bible
It's telling you the way to go
Jesus is the answer to everything you need to know

Satan worship may be cool and hip
But when are you gonna learn?
There's a place that's set for you and him
Man, you know you're gonna burn

So get back to the Bible
It's telling you the way to go
Jesus is the answer to everything you need to know

Gonna Fly Away
Words and music by Bob Hartman

Dreamin' about flyin' since I was a boy
Never thought I'd see the real mccoy
I think it's safe to say
I finally found a way

Gonna fly away
Gonna fly away

Every day I've been looking in the sky
Hope it's not raining when I start to fly
I bet you think I'm strange
Wait until I'm changed

Gonna fly away
Gonna fly away

Where you gonna be when the trumpet blows?
All that's left of me is gonna be my clothes
I'd really like to see
You flyin' next to me

Gonna fly away
Gonna fly away

Storm Comin'
Words and music by Bob Hartman

Went to sleep last night and I woke up feeling right
Daylight in my eyes and it seemed to be really bright
I went to the window and I looked up in the sky
I saw the angels coming but I knew it wasn't time to die
I took a look around I saw the clouds begin to form
I knew we must be near the end because the clouds come before the storm

I know the time is near
Lightning and thunder will soon here

Storm comin'
And it's coming our way
Storm comin'
And it might come today
(look out, here it comes)

I know my days are numbered
And I haven't got long to roam
It seems like quite a while I've been feeling like I want to go home
I'm just waiting for the day when Jesus will come and take me by the hand
There's no need to worry, He's gonna take me to the promise land

I hope you'll be there too
Jesus is waiting for you

Storm comin'
And it's coming our way
Storm comin'
And it might come today
(look out, here it comes)

Parting Thought
Words and music by Bob Hartman

Here's a song sung with you in mind
Maybe it will make you think about Him one more time
And if you can, please try to understand
Jesus is yours for the asking

Walkin' in the Light
Words and music by Bob Hartman
Based on 1 John 1:7

I'm rockin' with the Rock
Rollin' on the road that takes me to the King
I've been up and down your city
And I wish you could see all the love you need

(Chorus)
Walkin' in the light every day and night
Livin' in the Spirit is really out of sight
Walkin' in the light every day and night
Livin' in the Spirit is really out of sight

I know you've given me Your Spirit
Peace in my heart, a new song to sing
I'm giving love to all of my brothers
And I wish you could see all the joy it brings

I'm rockin' with the Rock
Rollin' on the road that takes me to the King
I'm tellin' all my friends about You
And I wish they could see all the love You bring

Mountains and Valleys
Words and music by Bob Hartman

Standing high on a mountain, I can see forever
All the parts of the puzzle seem to be together
The sky is clear and the sun shines on me
The Lord is here and I'm feelin' so free

Walking through the valley, darkness falls around me
Walking through the shadows, evil things surround me

I'm not forsaken
The Lord is my light
I know He's making a way in the night

If you've never been in the valley
You'll never know
How high the mountain is above the valley below

When you walk through the valley
You've got to keep your head up
If you fall or stumble you've got to pick yourself up
The Lord is waiting to hear your heart cry
He'll always give you another try

Lucas McGraw
Words and music by Bob Hartman
Based on Titus 2:7

Lucas McGraw, what's come over you?
We're beginnin' to think you're touched
We heard you got religion
Ya ain't been 'round to see us much
Ya threw away your corncob pipe and your jug of moonshine brew
And we hear you ain't been doin' all those things you used to do

Lucas McGraw what's come over you?
You're shavin' every day
You ain't been chasin' women and you kissed your wife today
You went to church last Sunday and ya shook the preacher's hand
And they say you been talkin' 'bout a home beyond this land

Lucas McGraw, what's come over you?
You never cuss no more
We hear you ain't been feudin', you hung your rifle by the door
Ya take a bath each Sunday, if you need it or not
And ya go to work on Monday even when it's hot

Lucas McGraw what's come over you?
We're beginnin' to think you're touched
We hear ya got religion, ya ain't been 'round to see us much
But ya know we've all been wonderin'
If what you got just might be real
And all the while we're laughin'
Is it really God, is it really God
Is it really God you feel?

Backslidin' Blues
Words and music by Bob Hartman

Please tell me what makes me feel this way
I've been down to the bottom and I don't want to stay
Tell me what can I do
To get back to You?

I got the blues
Those backslidin' blues

I can see it, I've been on the wrong road
And I'm too tired to carry such a heavy load
Satan's marking me now
I can't take it no more

I got the blues
Those backslidin' blues

Have mercy, take me back once again
I'll never be perfect and I sure haven't been
I know that you will
But you know that until

I got the blues
Those blackslidin' blues

I'm Not Ashamed
Words and music by Bob Hartman

I'm not ashamed to say I need you
You satisfy my every need
And when I yield to You and give my love You always set me free

I'm not ashamed to talk about You
You given me a love You share
I know you died and rose and will return to meet us in the air

I'm not ashamed, I've been forgiven
I have no need to run and hide
And when You take my hand I know that there's no need to be afraid

I'm not ashamed to say I love You
And I know You first loved me
And when I hear Your voice, it keeps me hanging on to what I've got
